35 - According to reports from the New York Times, Sweden and China are in agreement that we need more diplomacy in Yemen - which includes mediated talks with the rebel groups! Meanwhile the US and Poland are in discussion over military intervention.
Check back here for further updates as they occur.
10 - Delegates have a majority agreement that a ceasefire is the best immediate solution, however they are in disagreement on whether this should be temporary or a long-term plan. The representative for the Houthi rebels has been quoted as saying they "are willing to open the port to humanitarian aid."
03 - The delegations from China and Sweden question the US' supposedly democratic ideals for reinstating the Hadi Government. The delegation from the US has responded in kind that these countries, while technically democratic, are working "against democracy itself". The representative from the Hadi Government highlights the importance of demilitarizing Yemen and allowing the rebels to form a legitimate political party.
07 - The UNSC has passed a resolution calling for short term demilitarization in Yemen and a ceasefire. The Hadi Government were in favour and the Houthi Rebels were also enthusiastic signatories. However they did amend the resolution with a number of terms. They have gained status as a legitimate political party (yet to be named but currently known as the Houthi Party). They have also demanded that until a fair election can take place they need a temporary coalition government to govern, particularly during the this time of the proxy war. The Representative from the Houthi Rebels is quoted as claiming they should occupy "half of the seats" while the delegation from China has offered them "one-third of the seats".
